The science of mathematics shows us the law for determining the probability of a given sequence by chance. This is really very simple. First, imagine what you have seen on television where a pretty girl stands by a clear container of numbered ping-pong balls that are being made to bounce around by a jet of compressed air. She opens a valve and by random chance a ball pops into the slot above the valve and presto the lotto numbers are being selected. Now imagine the container has only five balls inside, and these five balls are marked with a different letter on each ball, and the letters are R A C G E. Since we have five different letters, for the sequence of the alignment GRACE to come up is determined by 1 times 2 times 3 times 4 times 5 and equals 120. In theory the girl would have the sequence GRACE come up once in every 120 attempts.
Now suppose we were to put 11 different lettered balls in the container instead of five, and used the letters P S E L U C I T A N O. Now for a given sequence of SPECULATION we multiply 1 times 2 times 3 times 4 and on up to 11 which equals 39,916,800. Now in theory the girl would have the sequence SPECULATION come up once in every 39,916,800 tries. Now lets turn to Genesis 43:33 and read the account of Joseph seating his eleven brothers (who did not know he was Joseph) in the sequence of their ages. The Bible says they marvelled - I bet they did- one chance in 39,916,800 that it could happen by chance.
As you have seen by the sequence of 11 letters, numbers will rapidly become too large to write as we go into larger sequences of perhaps 400. Now remember back to the term of exponents in math where 10 times ten = 100 or in exponents 102. 1,000,000=106. Each time the exponent goes up one the number goes up by ten. This way we can handle very large numbers, so if one million is 106,then ten million is 107.
Scientists have calculated some strange things e.g. all the water on the earth in all oceans, lakes, ponds, rivers etc. measured in drops of water is 1025. All of the electrons (and these tiny particles of matter are circulating the nucleus of atoms) but all of the electrons that could fit into the known universe 5,000,000 light years in radius, is 1080. As you can see exponential numbers get big in a hurry.
Now, lets imagine a simple virus, smaller than a bacterium; it consists of at least 400 linked amino acids, of at least eleven different essential varieties. These 400 amino acids ( chemical building blocks of proteins) must be linked together in an exact and precise sequence or the virus will not be alive and able to function and reproduce. Do you get the picture? For chance evolution to succeed we now have 400 bouncing ping- pong balls in the container and don't forget that amino acids have no tendency to associate into proteins except in living systems. But if they did have a tendency to associate then 400 must choose by chance to link up in proper sequence to form this living virus to supposedly begin evolution. The probability for this to happen is 10450. Now, you might ask how about the DNA molecule in the nucleus of every plant and animal cell that controls as a blueprint guide to its reproduction or just suppose there was a microchip in every brick of our church containing the complete blueprints to reproduce the entire church (not an adequate analogy) but for the DNA molecule to assemble in the nucleus of a cell by chance is on the probability of -get this- 1040,000.
Now think of the formation by time and chance possibility of the human cerebral cortex with 10 billion linked nerve cells exchanging trillions of electrons every second through trillions of synapses (switches) forming thought processes and ideas that are converted by hundreds of controlled muscles involving respiration, opening and closing of the mouth, control of the tongue muscles, control of the contraction and relaxation of the vocal cord muscles, producing vibrations of sound from air forced up from the diaphragm that are uttered speech and language which is received by another persons hearing and then converted by their cerebral cortex into ideas that can be accepted or rejected.
No wonder the Bible says in Psalm 139:14 - "I will praise thee: for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well."
As medicine and science progress, we can only marvel at the vast increasing complexity we are discovering as we probe deeper and deeper into the undiscovered interchange of order and detail in God's creation. Actually, to even consider time and chance as the cause of origins in this universe is an insult to common sense and requires far more faith than to believe in creation. "For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they (unbelievers) are without excuse." Romans 1:20
Remember the purpose of these creation science messages is to strengthen your faith and remove evolutionary thinking from the Church.
