CRITICISM Repeatedly, many Church attenders have told me they just cannot see the importance of the creation evolution controversy as I do, and in effect suggest that I cool it, so we can all get back to the important work of preachimg the gospel to the lost. It is evident to me, this attempted gospel preaching to the lost is what the church has been doing with very limited success since Darwin's invasion of the church over the past 150 years.
If evolution is fact, then there was no creation as described in Genesis, and there is no gospel because God's account of history is wrong. Adam and sin are eliminated from the equation by evolution, and we have nothing to be saved from. Evolution makes Jesus death on the cross meaningless. Why is this so crystal clear to me, and so foggy to so many other sincere church attending people? I have thought about this a great deal, and my conclusion is the answer lies in the false concept of an old (millions and billions of years) universe. I carefully watch the media for mention of this and find we are constantly saturated in the idea. It permeates the entire culture, and is evidently quietly accepted by the majority of the population. There are at least two full articles carrying this message in every issue of the National Geographic Magazine. Not a single day goes by without mention of it in the newspaper. If you wish, you can have a constant diet of it on certain T.V channels. What else can "Star Wars" be except evolutionary fiction?
Why can people not see the scientific evidence for a young universe? There are hundreds of these evidences, and it only takes one to disprove the old universe theory, yet they never get in the media. If you will walk through an old cemetery, you will notice the lettering weathered away on the flat prone slabs of granite. If this happens at ground level, think of the increased erosion effect of the wild storms at high altitudes. Why then are there endless examples of sharp pointed mountains and ridges if the mountains are millions of years old? Every time I see a picture of the Rockies or the Alps it tells me they cannot be old or they would be rounded off from erosion. Truly, I wish the critics who do not see the importance of creation were correct in their criticism. Evolution is the deadly enemy of Christianity, and must be recognized as the poison that it is.
I am still waiting for men of God to pronounce evolution as hogwash. Moses said it was hogwash, and gave us the true story in Genesis, then Jesus said: " had you believed Moses you would have believed me." If you can hear this message and wish to become informed, I suggest you call 1-800-628-7640 and order yourself a copy of The Defender's Study Bible.
It has been said that creation science evangelism is devisive. Guess what? That's true. Truth is always devisive. Jesus Christ was devisive. When most people are in the broad way, you would expect truth to be devisive. Jesus has been the very center of conflict in the world ever since He came. Through Him we can have peace with the Father, but peace in the world will only occur when He returns.
Sidney C. Phillips M.D. 1999.
